The Billy Letters

In the late '90s, pop-culture historian Bill Geerhart had a little too much time on his hands and a surfeit of stamps. So, for his own entertainment, the then-unemployed thirtysomething launched a letter-writing campaign to some of the most powerful and infamous figures in the country, posing as a curious 10-year-old named Billy.

You can view the responses here.

Unboxing an E-Cigarette

My Gamucci 'e-cigarette' arrived yesterday. It's basically an electronic nicotine inhaler. There's no odour and it emits only harmless water vapour. The weird(best?) thing about it is there's actually visible 'smoke' when you exhale, it quickly dissipates but it adds to the illusion that you're actually smoking.

It came in quite snazzy packaging which I wasn't expecting, so I took a few pictures.

The text on the lid is reassuring:

I might post a full review when I've had chance to play with it.

Christian The Lion

Christian is the name of a pet lion bought from Harrods department store in 1969. After about a year with his owners the lion had grown too big to remain with them. After a chance encounter with the stars of the film Born Free, the owners handed over Christian to the "Lion Man", conservationist George Adamson, in order to be rehabilitated into the wild in Kora National Reserve, Kenya.

This is what happened when his owners came to visit Christian a year later.
